  SUT Introduction to Commercial Diving

November 2008

TUCF recently put together an Introduction to Commercial Diving course on    behalf of the Society of Underwater Technologies (SUT). Participating in    this particular program were individuals from the companies Woodside,    Dive Ex and Neptune Diving Services.

This is a fun and insightful program, designed to introduce recreational divers and interested individuals to the equipment and diving techniques used by the commercial diving industry, giving a greater scope of understanding into Commercial Diving practices.

Theory covered included the use of decompression chambers and surface supplied diving operations. Hands on experience is a big part of the course; practical diving included, a decompression chamber dive to 50 metres and surface supplied diving in a heated pool. All had a chance to use underwater communications, full face masks and helmets. Ticketed divers enjoyed an additional exercise involving two "working" dives at sea.

Although it’s important to note the program does not imply or provide accreditation as a commercial diver, at the end of course all received a participation certificate.
