TUCF
undertakes a specialized ROV training program in Indonesia
The Underwater Centre Fremantle conducted a Remote Operated
Vehicle (ROV) training program on behalf of PT. Newmont Nusa
Tenggara, from 4 to 17 December 2001.
The course was undertaken at the Newmont facilities in Batu
Hijau, Sumbawa, Indonesia and was aimed at training and assessing
four Newmont staff in the operation and maintenance of a Seaeye
600DT ROV.
Whilst reference was made to IMCA
ROV competency assessments, this was a short intensive ROV training
program, specific to Newmont's Seaeye 600 DT ROV.
During
the course TUCF assisted Newmont to develop operational procedures
to support their ROV flying/diving operations. The Underwater
Centre Fremantle also assisted with the commissioning of the ROV
and trials of procedures to conduct a pipeline survey of the tailings
pipeline at Teluk Senunu.
Robert Mochizuki, the Newmont representative, commented following
a meeting with course participants, “they stated that the
ROV training was one of the best courses they have ever attended.
They are confidant with operating the ROV and are looking forward
to flying it on a regular schedule”.
The ROV course topped off a very busy two months in Indonesia
for TUCF. In October/November TUCF Instructor Glenn Allen provided
commercial dive supervision and training services for Newmont
as a follow up to a diver training program
conducted earlier in the year. Glenn led the Newmont dive team
through the performance of various scheduled subsea maintenance
work.
