TUCF Congratulates INPEX on Environment Award

11 April 2008

TUCF congratulates INPEX on winning this year’s APPEA Environment    Award in the Exploration category for recent operations on the Maret    Islands for the Ichthys LNG project.

When presenting the award, Apache Energy Australia chief executive and APPEA councillor, Tim Wall, praised INPEX’s “truly innovative and dedicated approach” to minimising environmental impact during its recent geotechnical drilling operations on the Maret Islands.

By utilising a helicopter and modified drilling rig, INPEX left an environmental footprint that disturbed less than one-tenth of one percent of the Maret Islands. A traditional onshore drilling operation would have disrupted more than ten percent of the Islands.

Major congratulations must also be extended to Coffey Geotechnics and Hagstrom Drilling, as the key sub contractors, for their development and operation of the ground-breaking drill rig. TUCF was proud to play a small but integral role in INPEX’s operations by providing the helicopter and other air support in addition to marine support services.

Mr Wall praised INPEX for their “strong emphasis on innovation that is protective of the environment and cultural heritage.”

TUCF’s employment of Cultural Heritage Observers from the Kalumburu community has been a key factor in the continued success of the INPEX project.

TUCF looks forward to continuing our relationship with INPEX.
