  Elang Kakatua Work Underway

6 November 2008

Elang Kakatua & Kakatua North Gas field is 260km North, North West of    Darwin in the Timor Sea. Gas production at this site has ceased and lease    holders Conico Philips have moved to a field abandonment phase.

Work is underway with SWG responsible for the removal of the final subsea structures and RTM. 2IC onshore/offshore construction manager Dusty Miller is consulting for SWG on behalf of TUCF. He is responsible for much of the logistics of the abandonment.

This is the first of the Joint Petroleum Development Area (JPDA) projects to reach this phase and despite the logistical challenges of the remote location work has been moving ahead.

Also working on the project from TUCF is Jason Hill, crewing one of two TUCF support vessels in the field. The RIB Saracosuchus or Scatchy, as it is affectionately known, is responsible for crew transfer between the main vessel Rem Etive and First Class, TUCF’s second vessel on charter.

First Class has been tasked to support operations including explosives preparations and supply runs.
