ADAS
Executive Director Paul Butler announced today a new scale of
initial and renewal certification fees to
be implemented as of 1 October 2007.
As you may be aware, ADAS income is currently dependent solely
on certification fees and is not sufficient to operate it at
the level of effectiveness and efficiency desired by the Board
of ADAS. The ADAS Board has decided to raise certification fees
to enable the Scheme to operate at a more sustainable level
for the future.
The new scale of fees now differentiates initial certification
from ongoing renewal fees. Initial fees are currently based
on the anomalous premise that a diver who undertakes a package
course (say Parts 1, 2 and 3) only pays one fee whereas a diver
who incrementally upgrades his/her qualifications pays a separate
fee for each level of upgrade. From 1 October 2007 initial certification
fees will, in general, be based on a fee of $300 per level of
certification for the initial 5 year period. Exceptions are
certifications for Part 4 diver and offshore supervisors, which
are set at a higher rate.
Renewal fees have been raised and set on scale based on the
potential earning capacity of the certification level of the
diver etc. It is recognised that the income of police divers
is unrelated to diver certification and ‘Restricted’
level fees have been set at a lower rate in recognition of this.
The new fees will be implemented commencing 1 October 2007.
It is intended that all applications for certification or renewal
of certification received after that date will attract the new
level of fee.
